I have a database that can't be updated but salesman commission needs to be calculated and then whether they were paid kept with the database. Can I create a database in Access that will only have the one field --containing "paid" or blank -- joined to the original database?

dm,
Absolutely...just put the Primary key fields from the odbc table into the new access table, along with your commission field. Create the one-to-one relationship. You can join them in a query and it will appear as the commission field is part of the odbc-linked table.

How do I put the Primary key fields from the odbc table into the new access table?

dm,
I'm not sure if you mean the data or building the table... For the data, if this is a fairly static list of salesmen, then you'll only need to load the Access table once, if it changes, then you append the new keys when you start the app. To build the table, I'd just open the odbc table in design view, ignoring the 'you can't modify...' message, copy the field(s), and paste into the new table in design view, then add the commission field.
Not sure if this what you meant?
