Is there a way to link offices on a Visio floor plan with an Access database. I would like to set it up so that the employee's name in access will update in the floor plan as changes are made to the database.

Which version of Visio are you running? You should be able to do this in Visio 2007. ( It may be only in the Pro version)

There is a Space Planning template that should help you get started and there is also a Data menu so that you can link the shapes to an Access database.

Do I need to use shapes or can I use text boxes? I am trying to populate the floor plan with the names of the empoyees from the db. I already have the floor plan made.

The shapes are only shapes in the sense that they cover a specific area. So unless the shape is coloured, all you will see is the text. The shape just defines an area on the layout, it does not have to be exact.
