I am using CR 9 Pro

I have 2 data sources. 1 is an sql db and the other an excel file.

The link between the 2 tables is something like the following

left (subscription code,7) in table 1 = subscription code in table 2

Can i link the 2 tables using a formula field? If I set the formula as above and then go to links it only gives me the option to link from the tables that exist. No formula fields.

Since it is 2 3rd party db, I can't add another field in table 1 as they won't support it so I need to do it within the report if possible.

Can anyone help/advise?

Thanks

Paul

You can't link the tables in the database expert in this way, you will need to put you formula link in the Record Selection Expert

i.e.

Left({Table1.Subscription Code},7) = {Table2.subscription Code}

I didn't know you could do that,and would have been writing views left right and centre!

You're probably better off creating a View as this won't pass the SQL to the database.

I would probably link both of the datasources into a Access database as a quick solution, and then go uninstall Excel from the person's computer that used Excel as a meaningful datasource...

I'm with SV on that one.
