I'm trying to protect my Legend from surges over the phone line. Many setups I've seen don't really concern themselves with it but my location has smoked modems through the phone lines before so it's a bit of a worry.
I was hoping to use an APC PNET-4. It's designed for cat-5 stuff but I put a cable scanner on it and verified that all 8 positions go through clean. However, plugging a loopstart line into it causes a short somehow, so the line never answers!
I also tried another APC product designed for analog phone lines (forgot the model). This worked for a while, but recently quit working. I replaced it with an identical unit and it still didn't work. The line was recently swapped from loop to ground start, but it's still a mystery I'm working on.
So right now my system has no protection. Anyone have a cool setup they'd share? Thanks all.
