I have a 2950 switch, with a Sun box connected to port 24 as an IDS...I get the following when I look at the interface:

FastEthernet0/24 is up, line protocol is down (monitoring)

Can anyone tell me what it means to see the monotiring portion of this line? I cannot ping the Sun box from the switch, but when I disconnect the ethernet cable from the box and then re-connect it, it recognizes the link.

Also, when I look at my router log I can see traffic going to that interface.

Any ideas?

Thanks, as always!

I have not seen this before, sounds interesting.

You have the port in monitoring. So all the traffic that is on the port being monitored is sent to the Sun Box. This is usually used for sniffers. You will not be able to reach the sun box from the network while the port is in monitor mode. That is the way it is spoose to work. Go to the cisco web site and check out port monitoring or spans.
