Hello,

Currently I have 7 lines. All 7 lines are in POOL A. My phone company is also pooling our lines. Since I already have a line pool defined in my system, am I able to go ahead and cancel the phone companies line pool service.

Thanks,

John

No, they are probably refering to your inbound calls where the first call comes in on line 1. If that line is busy, they roll your second call to line 2, etc., etc.
Your line pool A is for outbound calling. Someone makes the first call and automatically uses line 7. If line 7 is still busy, the second outbound caller goes to line 6 etc., etc.
Terminology varies from company to company.

NO!
what the phone company means by pool is not the same as what nortel means by pool:
Phone company Pool (Incoming to the customer) is when you have one number that is the lead telephone number, if that number is busy then the next call coming to the lead number hunts to the next number in the pool, if that is busy it goes (if there is one) to a third until all lines of the pool are busy, at that time the next call to the lead number gets a busy.
Nortel Pool (Outgoing from the customer) a group of lines that are selected to make outgoing calls on (useually by dialing an access code such as 9) If the last number in this group is in use (busy) the telephone equipment hunts to the next number up the pool until it either finds a free line to make the call on or finding none returns a busy to the person making the call.

normally telco pools hunt from the top down( 1 then 2 then 3 etc) and phone system pools hunt from the bottom up (7 then 6 then 5 etc.) this reduces the instances when you have a simultaneous call coming in and another going out accessing the same line at the same time. this is called glare.

Well Jerry, at least we both said NO, but your wording is prettier. I think we banged our heads answering this one.

Ya If I want to get the first answer faster I am either gonna have to type faster or quit rambling on with my replies without really saying anything that is of interest to the reader such as explaining how the telco programs the CO or even what the terms for simultaneous usage are.

Great Thanks! I'm a little bummed though. I thought I was going to be able to knock off a few hundred bucks a month for the pooling. Oh well.

Thanks Alot,

John
