line jump and custom line pattern

The situation:
Two lines crossing each other
Both lines are dynamic connectors
Line jumps are added on horizontal lines
The line jump style is gap

The problem:
When I use a custom line pattern for the horizontal line (or both), the line jump dissappears.

The question:
How do I keep the line jump when using custom line patterns and dynamic connectors?

File>Page Setup...>Layout and Routing Tab.
Set Horizontal size: from 2 to 7.

Thanks for your reply. I made the gap bigger as you suggested but that didn't help. Am I missing the point of your reply? I'm running visio 2003.
