Line is busy error

Hi.just built new PC.When trying to dial up the internet I get the message "the line is busy" If i plug in the old PC and dial up with the old modem it dials up OK.The new modem is installed OK with the correct drivers and the same dial up settings as the old one----but it keeps telling me the line is busy. Any suggestions ?

are you sure it has the same dail-up settings? do you hear it dailing out? try unchecking the "dail useing area code and dailing properties" and type the whole number in the telephone number box with a few comma's in front. "Jack of all trades. Master of none."
