I'm a bit confused by the Partner ACS documentation on line assignment. If I use Number of Lines to tell the system how many incoming lines I have (5), can I then allow some phones to just see 2 of them, and others a different set? For example, can I tell the system that ext. 10 sees all 5 lines, but ext. 12 only sees lines 1 & 2, and ext. 13 only sees ext. 4 & 5? The documentation says that you can erase all line assignments with the Line Assignment command, and then put them back in whatever order you like. Would that apply in this case? Can it be done with the software admin program? Thanks!

Don't feel bad. Whoever wrote the documentation for the CD version should be shot. I would advise anybody trying to learn Partner programming to get a copy of the printed documentation. Much better organized and comprehensive. Unfortunately this ceased with (I believe)ACS R4.0 but R5-7 only builds on the previous releases. So, if you know through R4 you know 95% of what you need to know for all Partner systems.

As to your question, I never use the PC administration (did you really think I would when I just recommended printed documentation?) Much quicker to do it manually from extension 10 or 11.

When you first set up the system you specify the number of lines that will be connected using #104. This will assign all lines to all extensions and should ONLY be used when initally setting up the system. After that or if you need to change this for individual extensions you use #301- Line Assigments. There you can remove lines, add lines and put them in any order on any extension.

If you have two or more extensions with the same assignments, set one up first then use #399 to copy that extension to the others.
