I am new to the Merlin systems and I need some help understanding how the line appearances work. I have seen the line buttons labeled with SYS-RING, SYS-RING OO, SYS-VOICE and SYS-ORIG. What the heck does this mean?

I normally work on Definity’s and on those systems it is pretty straight forward. Most phones have three call or line appearances that you can use make and receive internal or external calls on. Each one is simply labeled with the extension number.

SYS 00 originate only, used for transfers when you have both sys acc ring and voice in use. without it you will experience problems with conference and transfer when you have more than one call in use.

SYS R - using this button to call inside will ring their phone

SYS V - using this button will voice over a speaker if the set is setup for that without ringing it.

Additionally,

Sys OO or Orig (they are the same button, just different SC's will label them differently) will not receive inbound calls while both the Sys Voice and Ring buttons will.
