Hello all,

I recently took over a new client, and they had Line Appearances Programmed. I changed them to call appearances however they want it back to how it was.

So...curious what is the :99 doing?

Also, why would the previous programmer had the first 3 buttons as Call Appearances?

Lastly, they only want one phone to ring "Reception" for incoming calls. If all the other phones have Line Appearances as well, wont they ring too, even if they are not part of the Main HG?

Thanks!

The :99 means the line will not ring at the phone. When you add the line to the button map you have 3 options Immediate Ring, Delayed Ring, No Ring. You must have the call appearances on the phone. It can only be 2 call appearances, I have even seen 1 call appearance on something like a 1403.

FYI - Avaya does not support line appearances. Also, somewhere along the line I can not remember if it was version 8.1, 9 or 9.1 Avaya broke the programming. Every phone will show the caller ID of the incoming call. Even if your phone is not programmed to ring if you pick up the handset you will answer the call.

If your not going to it right don't bother doing it at all!

Mikel82: Appreciate it.

So basically what my customer wants is only "Reception" to ring, however if Reception is away, they can still answer the call by pressing the "Line Appearance" Button.

I currently have them programmed as Call Appearances, with a "Pickup" Button on all the phones - however they cant seem to figure it out lol.

Also gave them a "Join Main" Button that rings their phone should the receptionist be out to lunch or whatever - they are still confused.

They are on R11.0

So with their previous programming, What would the 3 Call Appearance buttons be used for? Would both Call Appearance A and Line Appearance for Line 1 flash for an incoming call?

The recommendation for that is usually to put your receptionist(s) in a group and use a group button to allow people to know when there are calls needing to be answered.

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

If you want them confused have line buttons and "call appearance" buttons both.
There is a FAQ posted here that explains using line buttons.
