I'm looking at implementing WEBS 2008 for a medium sized business here in town and was wondering if there are any hard limits aside from the 300 user/computer limit?? If I purchase the premium edition can I install other 2008 standalone servers into the domain?? Can I have more than one domain controller?? If so, can I split the FSMO roles out among them?? Are there any gotcha's to using this with multiple sites?? Finally, what happens if we find that in a few years we are running up close to the 300 user/device mark; is there a migration requirement like with SBS or do I simply purchase a different set of CAL's?? I apologize for the seemingly newbish questions, but there isn't a whole lot of documentation out there on this product. Thanks ahead of time!!!

No limits that I know of except the normal Exchange standard / enterprise db size. That is a difference between EBS standard and premium. Make sure you have good x64 hardware lots of RAM . You can have as many member servers you want just like you could workstations, they just can't be DCs.

EBS requires or provides 2 DCs, 1 is the management server and the other is the exchange server (even though this still goes about M$ best practices). With the 2 dc's I think the documentation shows how to split fsmo and make both a GC.

Multiple sites - A single Active Directory forest and the domain controllers for Windows EBS must be located at the root domain of that forest. Trusts among other Active Directory forests are not supported. All three servers running Windows EBS (Management, Security, and Messaging) must be in the same Active Directory Domain Services domain. The Management Server and the Messaging Server are domain controllers residing at the root domain of the forest. The Active Directory Domain Services operations manager and related roles must reside on the Management Server. The creation of child domains under the Windows EBS domain is not supported.

Here's the technet link to the EBS site.

thanks Hutch
