All,

I have a question regarding limiting the bandwidth, if I wanted to setup a 802.11b network and connect clients to it, but limit the clients usage to a set amount of time / bandwidth (as I don't want colleagues to use 400mb while using my system, if I set it up)

I would like it to be shared, but I do insist on limiting the bandwidth flow to their system, could I possibly setup something to allow the mac address of their system for 30 meg or something?

I have seen this product from Trend, called web manager, but I don't know if it would be suitable?

any ideas?

Thanks all,

Luke

You can purchase a hardware device to do this, but you are talking about a fairly expensive piece of equipment.

Are you sure you want to even use 802.11b?
To start with it runs at 11m, not anywhere near the numbers you mention.
In reality that is the max, if you are running wep encyption you will get even less troughput, maybe half.

guys,

found out some news, I can use a "radius server" which is used for the time and billing of users, cisco has several products, but there are many more, get on google.com and search for wireless radius server...

i would probably look at 802.11g now, 55mbs which is backwards compatible to the 802.11b cards...

more updates soon,

Luke
