Hi,

We would like to limit the amount of disk space a user can use. At the moent we just partition, but this is becoming impractical.

We have looked into quotas with w2k, but that doesn't look very good either. We have also looked into Quota Manager by NTP Software. Does anyone have any feedback on this product?

I was also told you could use Active Directory to control this problem. Is this true and if so how?

If anyone has any comment of tackling this problem they would be gratefully received.

Best wishes

Michael Curtis

Hi,
may I ask why the Win2K quotas doesn't look good?

It is in fact, one, if not the best soluction to your problem.

What could be better for you, then just simply specify which users, and how much space can each one of them independetly use in a specified partition?

We didn't like quotas becuase we wanted to set the limits by groups and not users.

Also as it set the quota on the ownership of the file, in our test this seemed unrealable and a user could get around the quota.

Hi,
NTP as a better software named Quota sentinal that allow you to make quota per share or directory for groups.
it can olso deny saving of specific file extension like mp3 mpeg and give you notification about it.
