Hi there,

We have a cisco PIX 525 acting as our firewall down to our datacentre across a 100mb leased line. Unfortunately we're unable to get anything like full utilisation out of this link. I think for a single connection, it caps out at 12.5mb. However, we _can_ have multiple connections at 12.5mb. Does anyone have any ideas about this? I've been scratching at my head since I started looking at this issue.

Any help, or ideas on where to even begin looking at this, would be great.

Thanks,

Ken

Usually, a small device like this can only handle a fraction of the speed as far as throughput goes. I don't know if anything less that a Catalyst 6500 series can actually have 100MBps throughput...

I think the point about the throughput is a good one - however you need also to check your interfaces at both ends - I note the BT LES services often fail to pass autonegotiation and have their interfaces locked at 100Mb FDX... often the devices connected will be set auto - in this case they will most likely fall to 100MbHDX which would cause problems. Make sure all are set 100Mb FDX if that is appropriate.

You could do a sh int and look for late collisions for a duplex mismatch.

Based on what you are saying about getting multiple 12.5 streams, but can only reach 12.5 on a single stream.. Your culprit is latency..

What is the latency between the sites? Also what OS are the end stations running? You need to look at tweaking the IP stacks to gain performance..
