Here we go again, today i applied the recommened updates from Microsoft and now I cant ping my windows 2003 server appliance edition.

I gave ping -t from other m/c and rebooted the server I saw that when it displays "Windows starting up", the pings were getting succesful, but within a minute it went out.

Suspected virus/spyware and did the following, but no luck:
a) Ran WinXPsockfix (didnt ran properly, i think not supported)
b) Ran Windows defender (nothing found)
c) Ran Lavasoft adware (nothing found)
d) Ran McAfee 8.0i (nothing found)

Booted in Safe mode with networking and pings are happening.

Now i am really going mad as to what's happening.

Any other idea's?

Do you have RRAS running on the server? If so disable it and see if you can ping. If you can your RRAS has been configured incorrectly.

Nothing is changed and I dont use RRAS.
I just installed the updates and rebooted and I am in soup.

Ok,

i did the following and got it up to the network:

netsh int ip rest

&

netsh winsock reset

Everything is working fine now, but I cant ping any m/c by the Netbios name or DNS name.

I entered the IP again, but nothing is happening.

When I say ping , it says "Ping does not recognize the host <hostname>"

Any ideas?
