I can remember having larger databases in FoxPro 2.0 - 2.1 and not having any problem (you will see some cascade action on indexing which is real interesting). I wrote apps in dBaseIII and Foxbase for many years and I don't remember running into or reading about any datafile limitations other than those imposed by the machine's memory and disk space.

Newer versions of dBase (IV, V) and Visual FoxPro certainly will have no difficulty handling this file.

Hope this helps.

Some early versions of dBase & FP had limitations on the number of fields (which could be changed easily). The only limitation on the number of records is the amount of disk storage you have. I wrote a dBase app that had 134 fields and more that 2 million records with indexes and indexes using multiple fields - all on a DOS machine!!! Worked like a champ! There's always a better way...

FoxPro 2.6 and dBase 5 both allowed only 254 fields per record and total record size was limited to about 4000 bytes per record. The maximum record count was supposed to be 2 billion but no one I know ever got that high. Lots of gripes about the limited number of fields allowable, though.

Fifteen years ago the limits were 63 fields. I'm not sure where the limits were in between.

In dBase III/IV (and Clipper and Foxpro) each .DBF file can be up to 2GB. This was a technical limit of the operating system in the 1990s. Read the documentation of the .DBF header in your manual. There are all technical info.
