Good day,

Could anyone tell me if there is a limit to the number of cubes that one can have in Analysis Server ?
Or, could I get an idea of roughly how many are being hosted in Analysis Server by other developers at the moment ?

Thanks

:)

I don't believe there is a limit in the number , but rather in what the server can handle. I've had server with as many as 40 cubes and other servers with as little as 2. The design of the cube has a huge impact on performance and processing.

Thanks MDXer,

That is exactly my point. I curently have 70 cubes in Analisys Services and I am beginning to experience some wierd performance problems on my server. I have plenty disk space (60G open) and lots of RAM (3G). However, my problem is that slowly but surely I struggle to convince Analisys Services to accept changes that I made in my database / tables. I often have to close and re-open Analisys Services before it realises that there was changes on the tables. Do you have any suggestions of how to overcome the problem ? Does the amount of RAM have a direct impact on Analisys Services's performance ? Thx

Analysis services Caches your table layout so if you make changes it doesn't detect them automatically. As for performance remember AS loads ALL dimensions and all infor contained in the dimension on start up. restart the AS service and then look to see what you memory usage is at. I'll dig around and see if I can find the site that docs AS tunning. Also if you have Distinct count measures in a cube wit other measures this has a huge impact on performance. Distinct count measures need to be handled a specific way in order not to kill every thing else.
