hi,

I have a Cisco 1605 router running IOS version 12.0(3)T with two ethernet ports (connected to two LANs). Is there some way I can limit the bandwidth on these ports?..I mean, can I specify something like port A can use only this much bandwidth and port B a different value (for bandwidth).

If not possible, which other cisco router model supports this 'bandwidth limiting' feature?

thanks a lot, folks.

You can add this command to your interface:

rate-limit input 8000 1000 2000 conform-action transmit exceed-action drop

This will allow 8K to enter the interface. I am not sure which feature sets support this command, I suspect you might need the Plus feature set. Try typing in rate? in the interface configuration mode to see if it supports it.

Note that you could use something like Custom Queueing to make sure that one host cannot hog the entire bandwidth - depends what you are trying to achieve.

HTH,
Michael.
