I am new to Linux and am responsible for Layer2/3 Nortel switching and routing for a large campus. We are implementing Novell ZenWorks imaging using DualBoot WIN2KP and LILO partitions for automated imaging services. The PC boots and looks to the LILO partition to see if there is a new image to download then reimages or reboots into 2k depending on what the administrator had previously flagged for that workstation object. Long story short, LILO kernal 2.4.18 will not pull a DHCP addr when workstation is connected to Nortel Passport 8100 switch TX48-RJ45 module but has no problem connected to a BayStack 450. The 450 is conn. via fiber gbic to 8100 in question and is routed through same path and VLAN to 8600 router. Kernal 2.4.11 has no problem at the 8100 switch. I know this thread is on the edge of NOT Relevant for this group but I have asked the question in the Nortel group thread with no response and thought a Linux guy may have some experience or info on whats different between these two kernal versions in regards to DHCP client requests. Thanks in advance.
