All,

Has anyone see a whole bank of switches start flashing there port lights green at the every same time?

When this happens I loose a far amount of network traffic, and ping times can reach 128 and above, so I'm assuming this is not just for pretty lights and there is an underlying problem. The problem is this happens maybe one a day, and I've been unable to capture a packet dump when this flashing in occuring.

It can't be spanning tree, as I've double checked all the root's, and it happens too infrequently (e.g. maybe one a day)

Anyone seen this before?

Cheers

Rich

it could be network activity such as a flood - put an analyzer on the switch. if its all on one chassis and neighbor switches don't see the same reaction, then it could be a system problem - console on watch activity, and check the log.

Spanning tree should not cause your link lights to flash. When a port is flashing it usually indicates network traffic on lower end switches. If they are all doing it at the same time, it might be a broadcast storm or something similar. How many switches is this happening to? Are they all in the same subnet/broadcast domain? I like the idea about the sniffer. It will tell you exactly what's going on.
