have a partner acs with 6 CO lines - 5 lines go through lightning protection and into system and work fine - 6th line wont ring if run through protection - other issue here is an OPX/leased lines to a partner phone in an outbuilding - which of course is one of the phones they want to ring on incoming calls on line 6 - line 6 wont ring any of the phones when going through protection even with opx disconnected - however line 1 will ring all phones including opx with no problems - any thoughts/suggestions??

Hi upstateny,
Is it possible that port #6 is bad on the lightning protection unit? I have had that happen before. Try and swap another CO with CO 6 on the protector. If that doesn't work, then try flipping the polarity. (Long shot, but you never know!)

already tried it - not sure about the polarity though - but line 6 did not work on other pairs of protection and other lines worked on origanl pair that line 6 used so protectors are not the issue - my thoughts are it is a line voltage issue from the CO but i am looking for some additional input - thanks!

Hi upstateny,
Why don't you jack the line and plug in an old Bell desk phone. See if the line has enough juice to run that. I don't know if you can prove a problem to the carrier if that works. Can you measure the loop current (around 30mA)? If you have an ACS 3.0 or later, see if the diagnostics in remote admin. detects loop current in CO 6. Can you dial out on that line through the surge protector?
It sounds like you are losing the full ring voltage through the protector. If the Bell phone rings on the line, then try it again through the protector.

what kind of protection are you using ?

have you called the manufacturer and discussed the problem with them ?

If the inline mA tests are ok behind and ahead of the fuses, and the protection is ok because you frogged lines around to various ports etc, and you reterminated all connections to eliminate any high resistance opens .... sounds like it's time for a vendor meet.
