What's the lifespan of the MCS servers? I know the warranty is 5 years, but has anyone possibly gotten 7 our more out of it? I know I have to also consider any new releases that require newly purschased hardware to support the OS and Cisco ending support on the older version.

You can get as many years as you want out of them as long as you don't care if you have support after 5yrs or be able to upgrade to newer versions.
cco has a matrix of which server supports what version.

That's my problem, I'm looking at several servers for call manager, meeting place, presense, mobility, and unity. I dont want to have to shell out a couple of grand to replace the hardware because of a new OS. I can probably get away with just replacing the Call Manager cluster when needed!

Are you on the old windows version still?
You can always wait a while longer and wait for release 8.05. Then you can virtualize all of the above and you won't have to worry about servers anymore. The only exception will be meeting place.

4.3 is the version and looking at upgrading. Also thinking about virtualizing our data center, so virtualizing Call Manager is likely.

you will need new servers more than likely to go to 8.X. As I said if you don't want to invest in new servers stay where you are until 8.05 is out that supports virtualization.
Again the only exception will be MP.

whykap, do you know the specs I would need for a virtual server to run UCM, Unity, Presence and UCCX on the same server? This would only be for Lab purposes.

pndscm,
sorry i can't help you there. I have not looked into the specs of a vmware server in order to run ccm.
It all depends on what other apps you will have on that server and aslo have enough memory to allocate to the virtual ccm so it will go through the initial install.

whykap, no problem. I am attending a couple Cisco seminars the end of the month so I may get the answers there. Thanks for all your posts.
