Does anybody know the life expectancy of the BCM 400 & 50?

I have a BCM 400 that started out as a 3.6 and is now a 4.0 and has been working since Sept. of 2004. It has been pretty flawless but there will be one day that it goes. I would like to replace it before it goes. We depend heavily on phones.

Make the 400 redundant and you'll never have to worry. At least 10 years.

I forgot to specify that it is redundant. My worry is, when I used to be out in the field installing BCMs, I came accross a not so old BCM, fully redundant, and the hard drives crashed in the middle of an upgrade. They were all IP, like I am now, and they were down for a day and a half.
I am sure one got corrupted during the upgrade and the corruption mirrored to the 2nd drive. Dont know if that was due to age or just by chance.
Also, it is rare to see hard drives last that long (10 years) in PCs and the BCM is on, ALWAYS.

Being on isnt the problem with hardware, it is the constant shutting down powering up cycle that causes more damage imo.

keep good backups and spares, there is no reason to be down more than a couple of hours at most.

Agree with john, being always on is what it's designed for. Plus, you always disconnect the slave drive on upgrades, then reconnect and mirror after everything is successful.

Here you go.
I hope the formating holds!

Which 4.0 version did you use for your upgrade?
Version 2.21g is the good one ,there was known issues with the others.
