I was wondering if anyone knew where I can get more information about license agreements. I want my clients to pay a monthly fee, so if anyone has anygood websites for me to check out please let me know.
I don't have any links that directly relate to this. I'd start by reviewing the license agreements you already have and then see if there are elements you can borrow for yours.
In general, this is hard to enforce, for how will you cut someone off if they don't pay you the monthly? You need to be sure that you bill your client regularly, too.
Personally, I don;t like this sort of licensing and actively avoid using products that use it. Why? Well, it's a little too much like the annual subscription fee we pay MS for their OS, their Office product, and their development tools (if you take my meaning). My software purchases come out of a very restricted budget and I simply can't afford to be paying an ongoing fee for the priviledge of having their software on my computer.
Yes, I do pay subscrption fees for certain service, e.g. my DSL connection, but those are few and far between. I also actively seek ways to reduce those expenses as much as possible.
Mind you, that's my view and there are many others.
FWIW, my favorite license is still Borland's old "No Nonesense" agreement from the early 90's.
If you're still looking, then I'd suggest spending some time with either google or alltheweb to see what you can locate. This is a topic that's discussed frequently in the larget development community and I'm sure there's a welath of material online.
After some more research, I came to exactly the same conclusion, so thanks Lance. I never realy thought about the support needed to check if some one is paying their bills and even more important i didnt consider that people dont like paying monthly fees.
