All,

Were looking to purchase an additional 960 LTO ultrium tape drive to slot in to our existing rack mount 960 chassis. The current 960 is scsi attached to the commserv and has two bays. One tape drive just wont cover our weekend aux copy any more. Our vendor is telling me I need an additional media agent License for this...? Is this correct ? The license is more than the drive! Am I being ripped off!! I know commvault is license intensive but this seems ridiculous.
Thanks.
Patrick

Are you saying that you are just adding another drive to the existing library.

If so then your vendor is incorrect and all you need is another drive license (DMS).

Media Agent software comes with 1 x LMS for the robotics (library management software) and 1 x DMS (Drive Management Software)so you are licensed for 1 drive...any additional drives and you just need additional DMS licenses for each drive.

TKs Birky,

Its a rack mount enclosure, with only one tape drive and one free slot for a second tape drive. Theres no robotics invovled. Theres two scsi outputs one for each drive. I guess this constitutes a second tape drive. When I run my licensing report all i see is
1 MediaAgent for Microsoft Windows - commserve host name
1 Library Control Module -HP Ultrium Tape Device
1 MediaAgent -Direct to Disk Option (DDO)(MSA 20)
I dont see any specific reference to DMS
Allthought its not a library Its seems to be classed as a library in the report. Im still confused.
Tks.

Hi

It's still an autloader though isn't it...how do you move the tapes from slot to drive?

Nope,

Its just rack chassis with two drive bays, Not an autoloader. Manual tape insertion job. Its just a space saving device to house two tape drives in a 3u space on the rack. The tape drives are independant of each other.

So Its another tape drive to be added, so I do need another license. My quote is for a additional dms license so it seems my vendor is on the ball.
tks.
