I am going to set up a citrix server which is going to be linked to another citrix server so that they can be a farm. We have 60 people who are going to be using the server. I know that the server I am setting up needs to be a failover if the first one fails. I have read that in order to do that you have to do load balancing. So if I am doing load balancing on two servers for 60 users what licenses and how many do I need? I mean Terminal Services licenses and then citrix licenses. If it was one server it would be simpler but with two I don't know. Someone said they could share licenses and another said they could not. I cannot find conclusive information on Microsoft's website or in my Citrix book. Thank you for any help you can give to me.

ok how we do it (doesnt mean its right, but its been audited before) and no dramas...

other citrix servers that are members of the same farm, share the per user licencing. So 60 licences in your Citrix farm, should be shared between both servers on a per concurrent user basis.

Terminal server works on a per named user basis, and typically once assigned I think they are assigned 'permanently' (dont quote me on this however)

Either way you will need the same amount of TS licences that you have for user as you do for citrix ...

AGain, this is just what we have utilised, and its all working no problems.

We just had to make sure our terminal servers were using per USER not per device CALS for terminal server licencing mode. :)

hope this helps?

thank you SO MUCH for that information! No one knew that for some reason.
