I'm trying to calculate the CAL's needed if we install:

* Windows Server Standard 2003 R2A Win32 Server
* This server will also be our Terminal Server

Our 2003 Server came with 5 CAL's. We have 15 computers that will access this server.

So, I think I need:
10 CAL's (since I already have 5) &
15 Terminal Server CAL's

Does this sound correct?

Also, someone told me that we purchase CAL's for Windows 2008 Server and install them on 2003. Is that correct, or do we need to find CAL's for Windows 2003?

Thanks so much for looking,
Richard Scott

Hi Richard, yes you can downgrade your 2008 CALs.
As for TS CALs yo can buy both device CALs and User CALs. You say tyou have 15 computers accessing the TS, is that for 15 different people, or is there a possibility that a single user can log onto more than 1 pc? If so, you may be better of buying user cals as you'll need less.

Cheers

Paul
