Licensing Requirements

We are currently looking at upgrading our domain to a Windows 2003 shop, and currently run all NT 4.0 servers. Due to the number of servers and applications involved this process will take some time.

Another component that is going to be added to the mix is the fact we will endup with 3 W2K servers, and some additional remote VPN users.

Our environment is using PerSeat licensing for the CALs, and we have enough for the existing NT 4.0 server base.

My question is if I buy Windows 2003 CALs to cover the existing clients and new remote users will this cover PerSeat requirements for all the various server types (ie. NT 4.0 / W2k / Windows 2003)?

Yes MOLP/Select licences come with downgrade rights so you should be fine doing this. OEM licences (those supplied by the computer manufacturer) don't have downgrade rights. Not sure on normal retail copies but given you have several servers you wouldn't be buying these anyhow.
