Does my NetWare 6.5 MLA give me any licensing for SLES?

I believe that if you have an MLA, your contract should have been converted to OES, which I believe DOES include SLES licensing. But I'm not 100% sure on that.

Do you have a Novell rep that handles your account? If not, give my office a call and we can get ahold of the right person for you. (We don't charge for services related to licensing, so don't take this as a solicitation - just a friendly offer to get you the help you need). Traditionally, Every MLA customer should have a designated account rep, who should come visit you once in a while. Historically, you never hear from them unless you threaten to drop your contract.

Good, at least there's a chance. I need another LAMP stack, and my boss worries about me getting hit by a bus... (prefers having a support contract in place, in the mgmt parlance)

Yeah, we've got a rep 'somewhere', and I hope to find out who today. If I have no luck I'll take you up on your offer, thanks.

OK, found my account rep. He tells me that the MLA will only cover SLES as a file/print server, it will not cover any other use. Weird, eh?

i assume in is maybe meaning that it will not incluse like of idm3 drivers/enfgine and that type of stuff

ie any of the add ons that you need to lic

The rep specifically told me that I couldn't run a database on it, and that a LAMP stack was right out. He said something about how we could have 'fully converted' in the first 6 months but since we didn't...

Of course, adding a SLES license to the MLA can be done at a reduced price.

Lord knows there's enough free support out there for linux, I really don't care if I have a support contract. If my boss insists on one I'll probably buy it from Novell.

BTW, the rep actually suggested I use OpenSuSE, which I thought was the strangest statement he made (considering he makes no money from it). I appreciate the honesty, but still it was an odd conversation.

For what it's worth, this came across my email today from one of my guys..

Hey,

This may be important for us and our customers to know. I was told that customers using OES (Open Enterprise Server) need to "claim" their entitlement to Suse Linux Enterprise Server by Nov. 1st. I still need to confirm the exact date on this.

----------------------------------------------What you Say?........

OES used to give entitlement to use SLES free of charge, but you needed to go to the customer portal and download it, or "claim" it.

If a customer does NOT do this in time, they will LOSE the entitlement to SLES and would not own the licenses for the supported SLES product.

We should make sure to contact our clients that know are using OES and tell them...

Gee, I wish Novell would have made that offer to me.

Someone should bring this to the attention of Mr. Hovsepian. That is, if he wants to retain customers.......
