Hello

I have a HiPAth 3800 with two STMI2 boards.

I have 30 b channel licenses, that i need for Cornet trunks

My question is, if I want to do load sharing between the STMI2 cards, is it possible to divide the licenses to both boards? would that work Since the Cornet trunks are all created for 1 board (the gatekeeper/gateway board).
Or by doing this, would i only get 15 b channels available?

kind regards

It's my understanding of the way things work that licenses are not assigned to boards. I'm not going to go into my lack of understanding of load sharing, but here is a generic description of the way I understand it....

You are licensed for 30 channels.

If you have 2 24-channel T1 boards (or whatever your using) installed you can only create 30 trunks in the system. It does not matter if there are 23 on one board, and 7 on the other, or 15 on each board or whatever, but you can only assign 30 trunks.

If you are saying "I have 2 24 channel boards and I want to hook a CorNet span to each one of them" - you will not be able to use all 24 channels on both of the spans because that would be 48 licenses and you only have 30. So you would have to decide which channels would be active on which board... Seems kind of weird to me to have those wasted channels on one or both of the spans...

Some of the newer licensing models you are paying for simultaneous users - like for the ACD model. You can have 50 ACD user licenses, and you can actually create 100 ACD users if you want - just only 50 of them can be logged in at any one time. I don't believe it works that way for trunks.

Hello

Okay, I can see my description, wasnt good enough, my bad..

I am aware that the licenses set the boundry of how many channels are available when it comes to trunks. And yes with Comscendo licenses it is only the number of logged in users that take up a license.

In my scenario, i have two Network cards in the PBX, and one PRI E1 trunk board for 30 lines.

I will not be having any IP phones on the system, however i will be having 30 cornet lines så i can call 3 other PBX´s I have set up in a similar setup. For this I have 30 B channel licenses. because every cornet call takes up a b channel license.

However the two network cards work as H.323 gatekeeper and gateways.

Normally, you would use 1 network card, as both gatekeeper and gateway.

But in the Siemens HiPath Manager E, when you setup your cornet trunks, you do it on the gatekeeper board.

That means I have 30 cornet trunks setup on the first network card.
And the second card well...does nothing??

What I want to do, is to have 1 h.323 gatekeeper, but two h.323 gateways, but since i can only create cornet trunks on the gatekeeper board, does this mean that the load balancing is done by the licensing?, because i can issign the b channel licenses to both cards.

But since the 30 trunks are created on 1 board, maybe all it does if i split up the licenses to 15 each, is it will only give me 15 useable cornet trunks at a time..?

dont know if this long describtion makes any more sense, it is hard to describe...
