There is a demo in which your workstation is scanned over the web. It's really worth looking for. We use this product, we have 3000 workstations, so we are heavy users.
Workstations can be scanned automatically at login, scans can be initiated from the Manager application, or can be forced from a command line at the workstation. Workstations Information Files (WIFs) are collected on the server which contain all the component data about your workstation. Once the WIF is built, the client on your workstation sends that file to a collection server, which interprets it and passes it to a database (MS SQL2000). The first time a workstation is scanned the WIF is about 200-300k, and subsequent scans are about 20-30k.
You can set up collection schedules to scan workstations at whatever frequency you like.
TS.Census is licensed at around $15-18 per workstation license. 100 Workstations will cost you about $1500. EZ-Audit may appear cheaper, but look at both and decide which has the greater ROI.
Does EZ-Audit track application usage? Changes to workstation configurations? How is the data stored and accessed? Who has access to this data and how is it controlled? Can you define your own products to be detected by EZ-Audit?
Well, EZ audit doesn't track the software usage, but do tell us what is installed on the workstation (which is my principal need).
We have about 5000 workstation so I personnaly think that a 3 000$ unlimited licence would best fit for our organisation. But thanx a lot for your help on this.
