Hey Folks!

Hopefully someone can help with my question....

I have just gotten 2 new servers installed bringing the total up to 6. These two new servers are much more advanced than the other 4. The problem is the majority of my liscenses are on the other 4, thus allowing more users to log into the older servers.

Is there a way to move some of those liscenses over to the two new servers? Please help if you can.

Thanks,

Tek

Are you referring to the Server licenses that originally came with the older servers, or additional CAL's that you purchased to run more seats on the older servers?

ajr3,

I'm sorry I wasn't clear on that. These are additional CAL's that we purchased on the old servers. I'll try and give an example :

Server1 : 100 licenses

Server2 : 75 licenses

...

...

Server5(NEW): 50 licenses

Server6(NEW): 50 licenses

It depends on the mode of licensing when you set up -I'm assumuing - Windows.

Per Seat Mode indicates that you will maintain a CAL for each "client" workstation that allows access to basically any server on your network. This is the usual mode as it is more flexible.

Per Server Mode stipulates that you have a separate CAL for each server that a client accesses. If a particular client access two servers, you need two CALs for that workstation.

AFAIK, it is not possible to convert from Per Server licensing to Per Seat without a reinstall of the OS.

dkediger,

Yes it is Windows NT. Is there a way for me to tell how these licenses were setup on the old servers? I wasn't here when these were bought.

Thanks a bunch!
