Is it legal to purchase 1 license for SQL Server 2000 Enterprise and install the software on multiple servers in our company?

The same question for SQL Server 2005 Enterprise.

This question is not a joke.

Only if you are running an active passive cluster. If you purchase 1 license and use it on 2 active servers you are Stealing.

Wow, so from memory, back in SQL 6.5, you were allowed to have a warm spare with SQL on it. As I understood, M$ changed that in 7.0 to not being allowed. You're now not only allowed a warm spare, but that can be part of a active/passive cluster?! That's awesome.

The only way that you are allowed to have a warm spare is if it is part of a Windows Cluster. Take a look at the licensing FAQ, faq962-5153 that I wrote.
