libxml2 lz error

While trying to compile (make) libxml2-2.4.3 on solaris 2.6 machine received the following error:

ld: fatal: library -lz: not found

Installed SMCzlib first, and already did ./configure.

Anyone can help? P.S. s/w build illiterate :)
