I've just bought one of these DVD-RWs yesterday and I have a HUGE problem with it. I've installed it preperly and it doesn't read and CDs or DVDs, but it reads AudioCDs. Nero Disc Info works on every disc, but with some waiting.

When I insert a CD or DVD, it starts spining it, after a considerable while Windows Explorer changes the drive icon according to the type of disc that I insert but it doesn't show anything else, none of the data on the disc.

If anyone has any ideas, I would gladly hear it. Thank you!

What OS? Need more info on what the rest of the system has.

That's why they come with warranties.

I've bought several LG drives for people without any problems so far, just mentioning so that you don't start thinking LG drives have problems on a large percentage of units.

I have a PII at 400MHz with 384MB RAM and a PcChips M729 MB. OS: Windows XP MCE SP2.

I know it cames with a warranty, but I thought maybe there was something simple to do (a firmware update or something).

Check your compatibility, or minimum standards of the DRIVE... I am not sure if a P II @ 400mhz can properly handle one of the newer DVD-R drives...

but if it does, then get it replaced or at least checked at your store...

Well, I have discovered thet the drive works fine on my PC. It works if I boot from a Win98 Start-Up FDD, or if I boot from the drive, with a bootable CD and it even works perfectly in Win98. However, in WinXP it will not read any type of discs other than Audio ones. Do you have any idead why this is happening?

BTW... I've figured out the problem. I just had to change the transfer mode for my drive (in the Device Manager / IDE Channel properties) from "DMA if aviable" to "PIO only".

Thanx for letting us know the Fix...

BTW - this should not have had any effect, as the drive itself uses UDMA2 as the fastest Transfermode...
