Lexmark C522 showing Low Color but it shouldnt!!

Hi Guys, hope this is the right place to ask this...i'm wondering if manufacturers are taking advantage of end users forcing them to pay for toners etc

we have a new Lexmark C522N laser color printer, the "starter" toners having only 1500pages worth in them...

We have printet about 5000 pages, ALL BLACK AND WHITE TEXT. the black toner of course was changed to a new 4000page one.

But now all the color toners show "almost empty" and the page counter says we have done 1600 color pages and 3400 black, so lexmark support say "you have printed 1500 color pages, of course they are running low"

we havent. honest! we printed a run of 5000 from a standard word document with ONLY text in it!! i checked that myself too...

As with HP, toners all have a shelf life. Regardless if you just opened it up, always check the date before buying.
There are a few ways to re-set the chip, but I dont know of any that really work. Try checking resets in the menu to change to new cartridge installed.

but its a brand new printer, only 2 weeks old and they are the original toners that came with it inside!

Found it, finally spoke to 2nd ine Lexmark support turns out that if you leave it as is the printer will somehow use all the colors to make black!!

if you want black only toners to be used, you must (and i quote) "remove all color toners and set mode in printer config to _black only_"

hrrrmm funny how all this wasnt in the documentation AT ALL...

now we know why color laser lexmarks are cheap to buy...
