i've got an if-field with the following syntax and the only thing that it gives out ist MERGEFIELD. what am i doing wrong

{ IF { MERGEFIELD firma } <> &quot; &quot; &quot;{ MERGEFIELD firma }&quot; &quot;{MERGEFIELD anrede}&quot; } andreas owen

Hello Andreas,

As I never use mergefields a lot I checked the Help file. It did suggest that you'd need the quote marks.
But as a novice to mail merges I thought I'd better use the menu method: Insert | Field, to insert an IF field. Then right-click the field to view the field code and, again via Insert | Field, add the MERGEFIELD entries. What came out was:
{IF «firma» <> &quot;&quot; «firma» «anrede» \* MERGEFORMAT}

It worked - but no quote marks.
