Hello,

Please excuse me, but I'm new to Leopard Server. When I tried to create new accounts in workgroup manager, I get a popup tha t states "You are working in a directoy node that is not visible to the network" Does anybody have any ideas what does this mean? I need to create about twenty five users and manage their desktops through the server. Any clues or links? Thanks so much

It just means you are in a local domain, not shared LDAP domain. Are you planning on using LDAP?

Everything will be OK in the end.

Do i need to know LDAP much better, If I just want to share folders from the server to the users or control their desktop settings. Thanks so much for far for the input.

Are your clients PC or Mac? Sharing folders is simple, set up the shares and turn them loose to your users.

When you say control their desktops, what exactly are you trying to do?

All clients are Mac, also just control the desktop layout of the Apple clients, I know this can be done in workgroup manager preferences.

You can also use Parental Controls if they are 10.4 and above. You should be able to accomplish what you are trying to do without getting invloved with LDAP.

Alot of the links on the right side of this page have proved to very useful to me:
FYI, you can also install the Server tools on the client computers and apply settings to that computer. We chose to do it that way for a limited group of users.
