I have a Merlin Legend, Version 7 Release 1. I began installing a new Esna-Tech TOL 2000 voice mail. I knew that the system had extensions with 2 digit and 4 digit (default 71xx) extension numbers. I tried to make it work because the TOL will support different mailbox lengths, but it doesn't support different extension lengths. So, I tried to change the 4 digit to 2 digits. I just got an error tone. Does the system need to be idle? I went to System Programming, Sysrenumber, Single, Extensions, Single.

That's where you want to go to renumber, 1 ext. at a time. You'd then enter the old logical ID such as 7105 for instance and then put in your new ext. number. The user that you're renumbering can not be on the phone though.

Is this a new install??
What is the ext. range now??
What are you ultimately trying to do??

This is a new voice mail on an old Legend that has been in for years and growing. The range is presently 10-60 and 7131 to 7186, give or take. The extension #s are mixed on some boards. Ultimately I need to be able to have the Legend talk to the VM. The only way I see that happening is to change all the extension to 3 digit. When the Legend talks to the VM it is sending source and destination digits. The VM is looking for 2 if I set it to 2 or 4 if I set it to 4. So it gets confused when there are extra or not enough digits. The 3 digit extension range from 100 up should cause the minimum of problems.

Well, you're at the peak. 7's are used for call groups, paging, etc. 8's are used from trunks and pools, etc., and you obviously aren't able to use 9, because that's your ars code.

What you need to do is bring everyone and all the 7000 ext.'s to new ext. #'s. Bring them to 3 or 4 digits and there you go. Make it easy for the customer. If there old ext. was 12, make them 112, etc. etc.
