I'm trying to hook up a parallel printer to the SMDR port on a Legend. Now I know that ideally it should be connected to a serial printer but we all know how hard those are to come by now adays.

I have it connected as follows:
RJ45 out of SMDR to RJ45 on a 355A
355A connected directly to a Blackbox Parallel to Serial Converter (connected to RS232 side)
Parallel side of Blackbox Converter is connected to the printer cable

I have used this setup before but it has been over a year and I know I must be doing something wrong. The Blackbox Converter has 8 Dip switches on it that control the settings for speed, flow ect. All of the dip switches are currently set to the off position, this sets the Converter for the following settings:

1200 Baud
No Parity
8 Data
2 Stop
XON XOFF

I'm not getting anything to print on the printer but I know the Legend is spitting it out because I get the info when I view it on HyperTerminal. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. This is just the way I have done it in the past but I know there are other way to accomplish this so I'm open to any and all suggestions.

Try Settings

1200 Baud
8 Data Bits
No Parity
1 Stop Bits
Xon/Xoff

These are the settings used in HyperTerminal.

You can also tell hyperterminal to capture to a printer. If you use a Laser printer it will print on when page is full. Printer defualt should be set to courier 12
