Is this even "POSSIBLE" ?
Legend Rel 6.0 with PRI, has been working flawlessly for several years. They claim that when they call out, probably to another phone system, the recipient sees the usual number to send xxx-xxx-xxxx, PLUS the label of the phone. So when Joe calls from his Legend Deskset, labeled JOE X, the recipient sees on their display: xxx-xxx-xxxx, and on the next line, JOE X. Is Telco doing something, or what? I'd love to hear an educated explanation of this one.

I find it hard to believe that's even possible since the labeling on the Legend is Internal. Are they sending DID numbers or the main number? Maybe they have names associated with their DID numbers through their provider and that's why it shows like that.

No, all channels are sending the same line ID xxx-xxx-xxxx. This shows up PLUS the phone label-----ACCORDING TO THEM.

EVERYone that they call, or just one site?

On an IP Office, for instance, if I put your NAME and number in my contacts list, and you call me from that number, you name pops up because of the match. Maybe that's what's happening?

Can't verify that, but they claim they recently changed the name on a desk phone label, and it showed up at the remote site.

Is the remote site connected to the main site by DS1?

Sounds like merlin network run amok. There is a extension setting to send name plus ID. Not sure how your case can exist but perhaps you could set it to ID only.

I suppose if it is PRI you could use monitor to look at the d channel to see if you are sending the name.

Wrong direction folks. This is not networked. That's why it's so bizarre. They claim they call another PBX, not networked, and this happens. That's why I'm finding it difficult to believe, and that's why I called in the hounds.

Yes I understand that they are not connected. But each extension has a name and ID setting and you can monitor the d channel to see if those extension names are being sent. If so then you are sending the names and somehow the provider is passing those along.

just my 02

The switch is not set to send the names, but the rest of what you said, seems a bit plausible, but weird. I know the monitor function, but what is the command to see the names send out?
Thanks.

I highly doubt that the station name is showing up as CID over a CO switch, because the way the name portion is handled. The name on CID is provided as a lookup function in the LIDB at the end office where the called party switch or equivalent is located, then is added to the CID data packet sent to the called party for display. Unless they have some special arrangement to put station names for their DID numbers in the LIDB, it can't be done.

I don't think it can be done but since he says that merlin network does not exist between sites(which it probably does) then the only other way is sending the name in the dchannel.

CarGoSki,

It will never happen that way, because the CID on ISDN & SS7 has NO place for a name. It is not part of the SS7 standard.

Well there you go. I have never seen a station send and receive its name other than with SIP which merlin cannot handle or unless the sites have merlin network setup.

Precisely, MM. I was trying to save a trip by asking the forum. I've seen it over a network, but didn't understand how it is possible on a CO PRI. They CLAIM it's only when they call a certain phone, off network, and no this is NOT a Merlin Networked switch. Weird. I haven't heard back, and they rebooted the switch this AM, I've received no further calls, and doubt the voracity of the original claim in the first place.
