Do any of you have any ideas?

Thanks for you time and combined wisdom.

John

I knew I was forgetting something obvious. I will check that now.

Thanks again.

John

I checked that port and nothing is ringing it. Does anyone have any ideas? I know a while ago, there was an issue of a certain release processor doing this. Does anyone know or think that could be the problem?

Thanks guys.
John

Verify problem by calling all incoming lines. If you can find problem see if it is the alarm line. Also see if the fax or a modem line is in the incoming hunt group by mistake.Or are there any MFM modules on a MLX phones with analog devices attached.

When you say you checked the port, did you print it out?

It may be covering something, or part of the Mail Calling Group.

yes, I printed it out. Here is the print info.

Some alarm panels are designed such that if a caller rings in for very short duration and hangs up, the next callwill be answered by alarm system modem. I'd bet that's where your issue is - have seen it several times before.
Mike

Well, programming looks ok. (Without doing a PRINT ALL)

Have you tried a POWER DOWN & BACK UP?

It could be a STUCK CALL RECORD.

Now the customer is telling me, it happens most often when the calls are forwarded to an off-prem answering whatever. That changes everything. I am remotely supporting the programming on this switch from like over half way across the country. I will have them cycle power to see if that helps, but if it is an off-prem problem, I will never isolate the exact cause.

John

Sounds like it's time for a print all, so you will know what is forwarding where.

Then you can shoot the REAL trouble.

It might just be that the sporadic incomming fax-tone calls - are actual fax calls from telemarketer automated dialing fax machines. I know in my area - there are a number of telemarketers that use automated dialing systems to identify company fax machines/numbers to send their blurbs to. I guess as a test - you could set up a fax extention (and put a real fax machine on it) - and input the fax extention to voice mail so the AA can transfer those calls - and see if unwanted marketing blurbs start pouring in. It may take a few weeks.

is your remote access line shared or dedicated??? and is it
part of the inbound hunt group. just a thought.

The customer has finally isolated a specific scenario. The host site forwards thier call to the node site. The node site then calls into a specific number to get the AutoAttendant. In stead of the AA, they get the fax/modem tone. Not every time, but frequently. They have "asured me" that there are no faxes or modems plugged into any analog ports of the system. There is no remote access on the system except for being transfered manually to *10.

Maybe a cup of coffee would straighten the system out. Helps me get going in the morning. Just pour it right in the top..:)

So are all the references above the "host" site or the "node" site? Sounds like the node site is the one that should be checked for analog devices answering. Do calls directly to the node site ever get answered by the tones?

All are host site. No calls to the node site have been reported with any problems.

This may be stupid, but are you sure they are hearing "fax tones" and not the wave-off oodle doodle sound?

My advise is:

call each and every ANALOG port on the HOST SITE and see if you get fax tone.

Then, if you get fax tone on a port, you can figure out how the call is getting there.
