My customer has a rather old release 4.0 Legend and has recently converted his trunks to Centrex service..
Now users have to dial 9 twice for a outside line...No problem so far...

The question from him is... "how can users just dial 911 for emergency calls without having to dial 9911"..
This facility has many handicap workers and he is trying to avert a panic situation where a visitor is not familiar with the requirement of dialing 9 twice.
I know I could place a few red emergency phones and build them as a hotline but they would rather not go that route.

I looked at speed dials but that's not the answer..

I have talked to a few people who know the Legend product well, and we have come to the conclusion that there is no work around..
Can anyone out there confirm???
Thanks
Rich

My first thought is to add some SPEED DIAL BUTTONS (Color them RED) that do the 9911.

The downside would be if they pushed them when they were not supposed to.

Why not change ALL your routes to automtically add the 9? Then it will be like it was before, 9 for an "outside line" (actually ARS) and the telephone number, no extra 9 needed.

I like your idea but I'll have to talk it over with the customer...
His people have been dialing the two 9's for some time now and I'm not sure if going back to re-educating everyone for a single 9 is feasible.
Again,... many of his staff are somewhat handicapped.
Just trying to do the right thing for them...

Thanks!!! to you and MerlinMan.

One other option, IF (and this is a BIG IF) IF they do not have any ATL (Old Merlin Type) Phones, they could upgrade to a MAGIX that can figure out 911 & 9911 is the same.

Yes I thought of that...They have MLX sets only..But money is an issue..
They are dependent on money from the community..They are a not for profit organization...mostly $$$ from United Way...

Might be some grant money for an upgrade in the future...

Thanks Again....
