Hi all,

We're going to evaluate Legato as our potential backup vendor. I'm interested in seeing what the outstanding warts are with this product. As you know, sales presentations and literature always paint a flattering picture. Pls advise.

Thanks in advance...

Each of us will have their own take on the product, I find it nice for scheduled backups, less so for adhoc backups. Compression on the client works for me. The software is more interested in backing up your files and less interested in tapes than you might expect. the question "where are my backups of the /usr disk?" are easier to answer than "what on this tape?" I use it hosted on Solaris to back up Solaris AIX and Windows

As with ANY backup software, if you are trying to back up MS Exchange, you will be challenged to do so.

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

I'm too new to Legato to make a fair pro/con assessment.

Storage Mountain has a whole set of questions to use to compare backup products. They're meant to be submitted as a request for information to a vendor.
