I have Legato Networker(WIndows) and Quantum ATL L500. I am trying to set up the library but I do not know which element numbers attach to whis SCSI addresses for the 3 DLT7000 drives. I have ran jbconfig 3 times and the robot works fine but I think it is putting the tape in the wrong drive because when I try to label a tape I get "READ ERROR" no media in drive! I can hear te tape streaming after mount but I think it mounts the wrong drive correlating with the UNIT number.

Does anybody know what I am missing or the element number correlation for each drive?

The drives are physically setup as follows:

Top Drive: SCSI ID 2
Middle Drive: SCSI ID 0
Bottom Drive: SCSI ID 1
(As the docs show)

There iws one host adapter and one chain:

adapter-->robot-->Drive3-->Drive1-->Drive2-->Terminator
(as shown in manual)

And finally:

SCSI ID Device
0 Library controller
1 Drive 0
2 Drive 1
3 Drive 2
(As docs show)

Please help me if you know where I am failing!!!

You assumption is correct - NW obviously loads the wrong drive.

Let me recommend that you check the correlation between SCSI addresses and Windows drive names with "inquire" first.

If you then configure the jukebox, you MUST follow the exact sequence of the drives, NW has reported. Do not change it, otherwise the effect you see will show up.

Unfortunately, Windows might change the device sequence at reboot time and you can not influence that. On a FC controller you may use persistent bindings to overcome the problem. However, on SCSI, i do not know any solution for this problem.

I ran "inquire" and the drives listed the same way I had them set up. I also checked the drive setup in the library. Also cleaned all drives.

While trying to label I still get:

Still seem to have the same problem. I am almost sure the tapes are mounting in the wrong drives still...

Any other ideas????

FYI, here is the inquire:

Could not start a Removable Storage session (0x00000015).
scsidev@0.0.0:WDC WD800JB-00JJA0 05.0|Disk, \\.\PHYSICALDRIVE0

scsidev@3.3.0:QUABTQM D@T3000 2255|Tape, \\.\Tape2

So in your config:
Physical Drive 0 = logical Tape0 = scsi adress 3.1.0
Physical Drive 1 = logical Tape1 = scsi adress 3.2.0
Physical Drive 2 = logical Tape2 = scsi adress 3.3.0
But there is something strange in the inquire output:
Tape2 is listed as DLT300, not DLT7000 ????

What appends physically when you request a mount on Tape2?

Not only this ... look at "QUABTUM" and "QUABTQM".
I guess there is a hardware problem as the data can not be transfered correctly.

Please check adapter, cable and termination.
