Legato Backup of Exchange 2010 is failing

I am running Legato 7.6.4 on a Server 2003 box. I have two Exchange 2010 servers that are in a DAG configuration load balanced with a Kemp load balancer. The backups of the Exchange servers have been working until recently. The backup error message I get for both servers is '<SEVERE> : Unable to execute savefs job on host Exchange01: Port mapper failure - RPC receive operation failed'. Running rpcinfo -p from the Exchange servers allows me to connect to the backup server. When I run rcpinfo -p from the backup server I get:

can't contact lgtomapper: rpcinfo: 80796:RPC receive operation failed; errno = An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.

can't contact portmapper: rpcinfo: 80796:RPC receive operation failed; errno = An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.

The backup server has entries in the host file for the two Exchange servers. These were added originally because the configuration of the Kemp loadmaster does not allow remote connections to connect by the individual server name. These entries were added during the initial client configuration of the Exchange 2010 servers. The backups have been running with out any problems until recently.

Any suggestions would be very helpful.

In this case I don't even expect normal file backups to work. Is this true?
NW will need at least the 2 ports 9737 & 9738 (for the lgtomapper). If everything else was working fine so far, I would restart the NW client service first.

Yes, the normal file backups are failing. I stopped and restarted the NW client on the Exchange server but I still get the same error when running rpcinfo -p from the backup server.

So not even the standard client SW works (you did not mention any module so far). This of course is mandatory for any other module.

If you do not have a network admin to help you, let me suggest you reinstall the NW client software first and ensure that standard file system backups will work.
Then lets proceed for Exchange from here.

Sorry, I did forget to mention the Networker for Microsoft Apllications 2.3.0.122. That is installed and has been working correctly too until recently.

Yes, but this does not matter so far. You must establish a working base for the module first.

Ok, I will uninstall NW client software and reinstall to see if that clears up the issue.

I think you have a Windows Firewall problem !
Ever Windows 2008/2008R2 System has a Windows Firewall activated by default. Maybe your AD-Admin activated it with a Group Policy without your Knowledge ?

If You have problems with Exchange 2010 Backup and restore do the following :

1. deactivate the Windows Firewall
2. Deactivate IPv6 using the "DisabledComponents" registry key (value 0xffffffff) on Networker Server and Storage Nodes (Windows only)and the Exchange server(s).
3. Deactivate UAC on Exchange server.

Good luck

I do have the firewall disabled. I have IPv6 disabled on the NIC but I am not sure about the registry entry. I will have to check that. I will also double check UAC. Thanks!

I disabled IPv6 in the registry and that didn't resolve the issue. UAC is is turned off. I haven't uninstalled and reinstalled the Networker client on the server yet as per 605's instructions.

I opened a ticket with EMC support and they can't figure out what the issue is. We can't telnet to the server with the ports that Legato uses. I opened a ticket with Kemp and a tcp dump shows that both server initiate communications but drop the communications almost immediately. Not sure at this point what is going on.
