Hi,

For many of windows 2003 clients , legato backup for System DB is failing.

2 retries attempted
Removable Storage Database - rsmow: Unable to open a session: 0x00000015.
Removable Storage Database - Error saving
39078:save: RPC error: Can't encode arguments

I have tried to start the removable storage services and run the backup it completed.
Issue is I started services and set it as automatic.
But next day i observed servcies are stopped and set under manual.

Daily i have to manually start the servcies to have successfull backup.

Any idea how to sort out the issue.

Thanks

This error refors to an open RSM database. It is rather strange to have RMS run at all on a NetWorker Client. It is even more strange that you say it will only work if the RSM server is up and running.

Searching the web you will only find some hits regarding this issue. However, if this ever worked before it might be that there is a compatibility issue and that a recent update causes the problem.

To my opinion its a "patch" issue. Try to update your system to the latest servicepacks and hotfixes available.
If this is not possible or does not solve the problem here is a workarround:

Change your backup command attribute to savepnpc.
Create or edit the "groupname".res file.
If you are not familiar with savepnpc, after the first run of this command a template script with the name of the starting group and the filextention res is created in the clients /nsr/res directory. Edit the pre command section to

"net stop NtmsSVC","net start NtmsSVC";

This will stop and start the removable storage service.

Good luck
