We have solstice backup (=legato) 5.5 running on a box and are testing storedge enterprise backup 7 (=also legato) on two separate Solaris boxes.

On both occasions we have logging of errors logged to both daemon.log, but also to /var/adm/messages and /var/log/syslog.

How can we disable logging to syslog ?

To my knowledge, NW does not write to those files which belong to the OS. However, you may find errors that go to these files also in the daemon.log file. This makes some sense because you only have to look at one file.

hi,

Check your /etc/syslog.conf Networker does add its own lines to the file, mine has daemon.notice /nsr/logs/messages but it could be /var/log/syslog which would cause the Networker info to go to your syslog file.

To stop it just comment out the line and stop and restart the syslogd.

it not only writes to its own files in /nsr/logs but also to system logs. I do not think this makes sense because these are not only errors.
I think this has to do with the line in /etc/syslog.conf
*.err;kern.debug;daemon.notice;mail.crit /var/adm/messages

in combination with the notifications.
log default
/usr/ucb/logger -p daemon.notice

i think this would ensure that it is also being written to /var/adm/messages and not only to /nsr/log/messages

is there a way good way to sepperate it again?
