Hello,

I have been trying to restore some data from a Solaris10 server and it keeps on failing with the following error message on certain files:-

Didn't recover requested files

What could be the cause of this error?

I have checked the logs for the backups and this particular server had no issues during the backup

May i suggest you run the recover command from a terminal session with added verbosity. This should give you more info.

Would you be able to provide me the syntax for this?

I've only ever used nwrecover to perform restores in the past.

I have performed a few more installs from this server, some stuff is ok and other restore start fine and then crash out with that error message

This is impossible as this is an interactive program. It works in general like nwrecover - just from the command line.

I can't understand that there is no other message telling you the reason. Assuming that you can browse successfully the only problem would be that the media is unavailable or the save set is correupt/has been deleted.

It allows me to browse no issues what so ever. I can navigate right down into the directory structures that I want to restore. When I start the restore it tells me the number of files to be restored, maybe there is an issue with the tape I'm trying to restore from.

I will have another play around with this tomorrow and see what happens!

This is getting more strange by the min!

I have discovered if I restore a bit at a time then it works, but if I do the whole lot at once it fails with that error message!!!

Well I got the restore done bit by bit and it worked eventually!

for example in one particular directory there were two files, if i selected both of them it failed. But if I did one at a time it worked fine!!!

2 files of the same name in the same directory? - i guess there is a problem with your CFI.

You should only see this if you look for multiple versions.

In this particular directory there were two different files, filea & fileb. If I tried to restore them both it failed but when I restored them one at a time it worked.
